Kona lived upstairs from the flower shop. The apartment was part of her contract agreement with Stewart and James. She’d get to stay there as long as she worked for Wellingtons, but it didn’t take too long for some drama to surface with regards to the apartment. Kona’s extracurricular activities would ultimately prove to add to her already tense relationship with James and Stewart.

It wasn’t bad for Kona living in Southampton because she’d had roots there and she was by no means shy. Once the shop was closed for the day, she’d always managed to find ways of keeping herself busy, going to the local meeting places and having fun. About halfway through the summer she started dating a much younger guy, Troy. Troy was a pup, much younger than Kona at a mere 21 years of age, and her attraction to him seemed to be more physical than anything.

Apparently, Troy had also been within the sights of Kona’s cousin, who also lived in Southampton. Johnny never really found out the true story of what happened, but Kona’s relationship with Troy ended up into a developing war between her and her family. At the same time, Troy had had a falling out with his own family and at first only quietly moved into the apartment with Kona, but since the apartment was right upstairs, it didn’t stay quiet for too long.

The front doors to the shop and the apartment were adjacent to one another, and Johnny would have loved to have been there the first time Troy left the apartment during working hours. When he came in later that day, Kona and Stewart had clearly already had a discussion about it, for tension filled the air in the shop. Things got pretty ugly when James came by and words were spoken, that is, shouted between the two of them downstairs. In the end, the three of them agreed that Kona would pay them rent for Troy living upstairs.

No sooner than the agreement had been reached, Kona began to have second thoughts about her boy toy, for suddenly she felt that she was supporting him, and besides, she wasn’t the settling down type. In the end, Troy’s stay in the apartment lasted only a short while, as Kona ultimately kicked him out from the frustration gnawing at her insides during their cohabitation.

With that, the end of the season was nearing, and Johnny and Kona spent more and more time hanging out together. At the time, Johnny had been going through a rough breakup, and Kona was there to get his mind off of things. When the ex took his bed, she helped him out with an old mattress which Johnny still uses to this day. They shared a lot of laughs and good times and in the end, he’d come to treasure their friendship and was looking forward to next summer.

One day that November, Johnny got a phone call from Kona. She’d gotten a winter job in Aspen, Colorado, and she was buying an SUV to take her across the country. She needed him to take her to pick it up. They had one last dinner together before she made her way out of New York and westward. They said their goodbyes, and Kona even called Johnny a couple of times from the road. He was going to miss her, but he knew he’d see her in a few months.

The following May, Johnny heard from Stewart asking him if he’d like to come back for another summer. Being newly single and relatively broke, Johnny said yes. He came into the shop on the Friday before Mother’s Day, starting to work only weekends until school was out. When he arrived, Stewart introduced him to Misty, the new designer in the shop. Kona was gone!

It wasn’t until I had a family of my own that I discovered how hard finding the right tree at the right price could be. It seemed like everywhere I looked I saw trees, living and fake, but to find one that was “perfect” and at I price I could afford was harder then I thought. That first year I think I spent more on gas then I did the tree. The next year was a little better but not by much. I complied this list of different places in the Richmond, VA and surrounding areas that trees can be found.

1. If you want to cut down your own tree then Holly Berry Tree Farm is the place to go. The Farm is located outside of Richmond in Moseley, which is about a 30-40 minute drive, but it is worth it. Not only can you cut down your tree but you can grab a bite to eat, pick out some new decorations, and the kids can pet the animals at the petting zoo. This is a wonderful day trip for the family.(804) 739-8733 18900 Hull St. Rd

2. One place that many people love to go is your locale Wal-Mart. They sell both living and artificial trees at reasonable prices with a good selection to chose from. The one really nice thing about Wal-Mart is the fact that you can take care of almost all of you holiday needs. From trees to decorations, they have it. Another nice thing is that some things can be bought off of their website, then ship straight to you, to help simplify things. http://www.Wal-Mart.com

3. One place that people don’t normally think of is Lowes. They sell beautiful living trees with several different sizes to chose from. The staff are helpful and polite, with knowledge of tree care to help keep your tree looking good for longer. They will bag the tree and also help you to load it into your vehicle. One thing I really like is that I can also take care of all my outside holiday needs. Plus, like Wal-Mart, there are several in the surrounding area. http://www.lowes.com

4. When most people think of Strange’s, they think of a florist, but that’s not true. The Strange’s Garden Center has wonderful living and artificial trees. The display is breath taking on moment you step through the door. They have several differently decorated trees to help give new ideas for your Christmas tree, with ideas ranging from traditional to new age. (804) 360-2800 West Broad St. between Short Pump Town Center and Rt. 288

There are several more places where you can purchase trees. Some are simple road side places where the trees are wonderful and fresh, most have new tree brought in daily. The reason that they are not mentioned here is because most do not have telephone numbers, beside the fact I can not guarantee that these places will be here tomorrow. I hope this list is helpful! And have a wonderful Holiday!
